The 2018 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships concluded on Sunday in Maniago, Italy, with the road races for the Cycle (C1 - C5) and Tandem categories, followed by the team relay. A total of 13 world titles were awarded on the final day of competition. Great Britain and the United States were the only nations to win multiple titles, with each winning two events. Nine nations won a single world title on the final day. Overall, 15 nations won world titles over the course of four days, with Italy, the United States and the Netherlands leading the standings at nine gold medals each. Italy ranks first with a total of 17 medals, followed by the USA at 15 medals and the Netherlands at 13 medals. Five athletes successfully defended their 2017 titles on Sunday, with five also managing to win both the time trial and road race in their category. Shawn Morelli of the United States in Women's C4, and the Irish Women's tandem team of Katie-George Dunlevy and pilot Eve McCrystal, both managed the difficult feat of repeating as champions in the time trial and the road race.
Among the noticeable performances was Sarah Storey of Great Britain in the Women's C5 category, who returned to competition less than ten months after giving birth to her second child, and swept both the time trial and road race. The 14-time Paralympic Champion has now won a total of 31 world titles on the road and the track. The final event of the Championships was the team relay, which ended in a sprint, with the U.S. squad of David Randall (H3), William Groulx (H2) and Oscar Sanchez (H5) beating defending Champions Italy (Paolo Cecchetto – H3 –, Luca Mazzone – H2 –, Alessandro Zanardi – H5). Spain took the bronze medal.
