Windham (USA) - 28-29.08.2010

After two seasons of rave reviews on the US national circuit, the courses at Windham have earned organizers the invitation to host the finals of the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.

Nestled in the Catskill Mountains of New York State, the small resort town of Windham will open its arms to the world from August 25th to 29th for this World Cup triple event (cross-country, downhill and four-cross).  Windham will be the site of the first US World Cup event in five years and the first in this region since 1992.

The Windham World Cup courses epitomize the legendary aspects of “east-coast†riding in the US. The cross-country course features the “Alpe d’Huez†climb, the downhill chute and countless tunnels and bridges including the Troll Bridge, the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and the “108†(108 feet or 32.9 meters long). The fast, steep downhill course is an electrifying blend of rocks, roots and occasional dirt that will challenge racers and thrill spectators. Finally, with some finishing touches from the internationally renowned designer Phil Saxen, the 4X course at Windham will rival some of the world’s best.

In addition to the UCI races, the organizing committee - a group of local business owners and outdoor enthusiasts - will present Windham’s unique hometown flavour in the form of an all-inclusive Mountain Bike Festival that will be nothing short of spectacular.

Some of the planned activities include: “Race the World†citizen races for non-UCI-registered pros and amateurs; indoor and outdoor expos showcasing bikes and accessories, local crafts and retail products and a variety of food and drink; a crazy Big Wheel race down wild and windy Windham back roads; a block party in front of the local Brew Pub with time-trial races, trials exhibitions, great music and beer specials; plus a big open-air concert on Saturday night.
