Cycling at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games
On the 10th of February 2010, the 122nd IOC session at Vancouver announced Nanjing as the host city of the second summer YOG.
The competitions of Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, encompassing the 28 sports of Rio 2016, will be held from 16 to 28 August.
Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu province in China and has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture, having been the capital of China on several occasions
The YOGOC aims to spread the Olympic spirit and enhance sporting awareness. The motto of the Nanjing Games is “Olympics for the young, by the young.â€
Cycling program
Three gold medals will be awarded for cycling at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games: for Junior Men (teams of two men) Junior Women (teams of two women) and Junior Mixed Team Relay (teams of two men and two women).
The men’s and women’s events include five cycling disciplines: BMX, mountain bike cross-country Olympic (XCO), mountain bike cross-country eliminator (XCE), road race and road time trial.
1) Both Junior Men and Women are required to compete in the road race as well as two of the remaining four disciplines each (BMX, XCO, XCE and road time trial).
2) The Mixed Team Relay will comprise an XCO event (raced by one Junior Man and one Junior Woman per team) and a road race (for the two remaining members of each team). For NOCs who qualified only two men or two women for the Youth Olympic Games, lots will be drawn in order to form combined teams.
