The UCI Women's WorldTour Chronicle
- What happened? -
The opening days of their year’s Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile have been typically entertaining with three scenarios being played out on three days. Boels-Dolmans CyclingTeam continued their excellent season, winning the opening team time trial, a discipline they are UCI World Champions in.
That victory propelled Karol-Ann Canuel into the leader’s pink jersey, which stayed in the team when Anna van der Breggen finished second the following day. The Olympic Champion went with Dutch compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten (Orica-Scott) when she attacked on the final climb. Wiggle-High5’s Elisa Longo Borghini made it a trio of general classification riders battling for the win, with Van Vleuten coming out on top.
Though two late climbs split the peloton, stage three finished in a bunch sprint with Canyon-SRAM rider Hannah Barnes taking the German team’s first UCI WorldTour win of the season.

- Focus on Karol-Ann Canuel -
After helping Boels-Dolmans CyclingTeam to victory in the opening team time trial, Karol-Ann Canuel began stage two wearing the pink jersey. Team time trial victory is no novelty to her as she has three UCI World Championship titles in the discipline: with Specialized-Lululemon (2014), Velocio-SRAM (2015) and with the Dutch team last year.
It’s not just against the clock she has success, however. Though she recently became the Canadian Champion in the time trial for the second time, she has also tasted road race success at events such as Thüringen Rundfhart and Tour de l’Ardèche.
