UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano
A long season spanning five months and taking place in eight countries saw cross-country Olympic (XCO) and downhill (DHI) specialists compete in top-class conditions.
Downhill: Fort William (GBR)
This legendary spot in the Scottish Highlands wins the “best event” vote for 2016. Also host of the 2007 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, Fort William organised a World Cup stopover for the 15th time this year. Several times winner of the “best event” award, the Scottish destination again won over the voters thanks to its course, large crowds, unique atmosphere, watertight organisation and team facilities: in summary, a fantastic promotion for the discipline.
Cross-country Olympic: Mont-Sainte-Anne (CAN)
Since its first involvement with the UCI World Cup in 1991, the Canadian resort has become a not-to-be-missed feature on the calendar. Hosting its 26th UCI event this year, this classic rendezvous was voted best XCO event thanks to its excellent organisation and ever-popular course that every year boasts innovations.
The two winners will receive their trophies at the mountain bike organisers’ seminar in December.
UCI BMX Supercross World Cup: Santiago del Estero (ARG)
The Argentinean city hosted the first of five rounds that made up the 2016 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The hospitality, “awesome” but not too difficult track, good organisation, full grandstands and relaxed atmosphere earned it the “best event” vote of the series.
On the calendar of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup since 2013, Santiago del Estero was already voted best event in 2014. The organisers will be awarded with a trophy during the organisers’ seminar next month.
UCI Trials World Cup: Antwerp (BEL)
Antwerp has confirmed it is a favourite trials destination, being voted “best event” for the third consecutive year.
This classic event traditionally brings the curtain down on the UCI World Cup season, and never fails to please. The enthusiastic crowd of spectators create a special atmosphere in the city centre’s market square. Multiple UCI World Champion Kenny Belaey and his organising team will receive their award in March next year during a seminar for organisers of the UCI Trials World Cup.
