Mountain bike: Eliminator specialists in the starting blocks
The first round of the new UCI Mountain Bike Eliminator (XCE) World Cup powered by CityMountainbike.com takes place this weekend in Volterra, Italy.
This exciting racing format, which sees heats of four riders tackle a short and technical course, has its own dedicated UCI World Cup series for the first time. XCE was on the programme of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano from 2012 to 2014, and until 2016 was also part of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. From this year, it will join Trials and BMX Freestyle Park at the inaugural UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in China.
Eight city centres in seven countries and on three continents will host rounds of the UCI XCE World Cup, which concludes in Beirut, Lebanon, in October. Possible thanks to a partnership with CityMountainbike, the UCI World Cup rounds will take mountain biking to urban centres. In Volterra, riders will have to negotiate tight bends, bridges and stairs.
