UCI Cycle-ball World Cup: last chance to qualify for Final
The 2015 UCI Cycle-ball World Cup continues on Saturday in Höchst, Austria. It will be the final chance for teams to qualify for the final in Mosnang, Switzerland, on December 5th.
Ten teams from six nations will participate in Höchst, home of the current UCI Cycle-ball World Champions RC Höchst I (Patrick Schnetzer - Markus Bröll). Together with the Swiss team RS Altdorf (Dominik Planzer - Roman Schneider), and the French team VC Dorlisheim (Benjamin Meyer - Quentin Seyfried) they have already qualified for this year’s UCI Indoor Cycling World Championships. All three of these teams will compete in Höchst alongside three teams who have already earned their tickets for the UCI World Cup Final in Mosnang: Höchst II (Simon König – Florian Fischer) and two German teams RMC Stein (Gerhard and Bernd Mlady) and former World Champions RV Gärtringen (Uwe Berner – Matthias König),
None in Höchst this weekend will be more eager to gain a spot for the Finals than Peter Jiricek who, playing for RC Winterthur, has competed in all 13 Finals with different partners since 2002. His impressive series is threatened this year. The Swiss team of Jiricek and Marcel Waldispühl currently lies in 11th place in the UCI Cycle-ball World Cup ranking with 95 points, 30 points behind eighth-placed SC Svitavka (Jiri Hrdlicka and Pavel Loskot). In order to oust the Czech Champions, (who will not be participating on Saturday) from their qualifying spot, RC Winterthur must finish in the top five in Höchst.
Fresh from their bronze medal performance in the Czech Republic National Championship, TJ Sokol Zlin (Martin Struhar -Jan Krejci) will also be competing in Höchst. They are joined by Belgian national silver medallists HZG Beringen (Brecht Damen - Niels Dirikx) and a young team from the host club, RC Höchst 3 (Fabian - Johannes Bauer), who start with the wildcard.
