UCI WorldTour licence for the Tour of Hangzhou and five other events renew their licence

The Licences Commission today informed the UCI of its decision to award a UCI WorldTour licence for a period of four years to the Tour of Hangzhou (CHN). The first edition of the race will take place from 17th to 21st October 2012. This new event will close this year’s UCI WorldTour calendar.

“The Licences Commission’s decision to award a four-year licence to the Tour of Hangzhou is excellent news for cycling,” commented the UCI President. “One year after the success of the first Tour of Beijing, we are delighted to offer the world of cycling – riders, teams, partners, media, spectators – this new opening in Asia which widens the horizons of our sport and lends it new weight. Thanks to this development throughout the world, but without forgetting its origins, the UCI guarantees cycling’s modern status and reinforces its position among the major Olympic disciplines.”

The Licences Commission also renewed UCI WorldTour licences, for the period 2013-2016 to the following events:
-Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco (ESP) ;
-Critérium du Dauphiné (FRA) ;
-Clasica Ciclista San Sebastian (ESP).

Two other events, for which the licence was to expire in 2013, requested and obtained an early renewal of their licence, which will cover the period 2013 – 2016. They are the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal (CAN).
