The world's best BMX athletes descend on London’s Olympic Park this week for the third stop of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series. Almost 160 Elite Riders have signed up for the event which kicks off on Friday, with finals on Saturday.
This will be one of the first events ever to be staged on the new Olympic Park in east London and is part of the ‘London Prepares’ series which allows the London 2012 Organizing Committee to test crucial aspects of its operations ahead of the Games. It is also the ultimate event for riders to hone their skills on the challenging Olympic Track, one year out from the Games. With the world’s top athletes racing, including the newly crowned World Champions Joris Daudet (FRA) and Mariana Pajon (COL), the two days of racing promise plenty of thrilling sporting moments. For fans around the world the action can be followed live online on www.freecaster.com
The American public will also be able to follow a major BMX event nationwide, for the first time since the Beijing Olympics, via NBC Sports on August 21st.
BMX made its spectacular Olympic debut in 2008 and met with immediate worldwide public success. It is now one of the fastest growing Olympic disciplines.
