UCI ProTeams and organisers of events on the UCI WorldTour calendar joined forces at the beginning of the week to discuss issues concerning the 2013 season and beyond.
Held last year for organisers only, the UCI WorldTour Seminar this week brought teams and event organisers together for the first time since 2007.
During two half-day sessions in Montreux, Switzerland, the seminar participants were addressed by experts on a wide variety of topics including the environment, television production of races and rider security. After each address, they had the opportunity to debate the different issues, which they continued to discuss more informally during the breaks.
Key speakers included two lawyers, various television producers, a biodiversity expert and professional riders Dario Cioni (Sky Procycling), Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team) and Johann Tschopp (BMC Racing Team).
“The aim was to address issues that are part of the day-to-day concerns of organisers and riders,†said UCI President Pat McQuaid. “There are many ideas and best practices out in the wider sports community and we gathered a number of experts together to exchange their ideas.â€
The UCI President added: “Everyone at the seminar had the same objective: to see cycling thrive. United, we are very strong and have the force to carry cycling through to a bright future.â€
The UCI WorldTour seminar will be followed by a seminar for International Commissaires, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 12th and 13th 2013.
