Pan-American Cycling Confederation: The 2013 Congress in Havana

The 2013 Congress of the Pan-American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) took place in Havana (Cuba) on Saturday with the participation of 31 National Federations and the UCI President Pat McQuaid.

The voting delegates re-elected José Manuel Peláez as COPACI President until 2017. Elected for the first time in 1991, this leader will continue to put his experience to the benefit of the Confederation.

“The last four years were very important for the development of cycling in America,” Mr McQuaid underlined in his speech. “The next four years will also be decisive and the UCI is committed to supporting COPACI’s actions with a view to the 2016 Olympic Games which will be held on your continent.”

The UCI President then detailed measures undertaken by the International Federation following the Armstrong affair, in particular the cooperation with the Independent Commission and the stakeholders’ consultation.

In the wings of the COPACI Congress, a delegation from the Chilean National Federation and the President of Chile’s National Olympic Committee met with the UCI.

Finally, numerous meetings were held between representatives of Federations and Dominique Raymond. As UCI Manager of National Federations and Continental Confederations relations, she is always ready to listen to the federation leaders and help them with any development project.
