Two of the World Cycling Centre’s trainees have got off to a good start in the African Continental Cycling Championships with medals in the team time trial.
Natnael Berhane won gold with his Eritrean team while Faycal Hamza’s Algerian team came through for bronze on the roads of Ouagadugou in Burkina Faso.
One of the WCC’s success stories, Natnael Berhane trained first at the WCC’s African satellite in Potchefstroom, South Africa. He then transferred to the WCC in Aigle, Switzerland, where his talent came to the attention of professional Team Europcar, which has signed him for 2013. Reigning African Champion in the road race, the Eritrean athlete will defend his title on Sunday. The young Algerian Faycal Hamza, 20 years, joined the trainees at the WCC for the first time in 2012.
The African Continental Championships continue with the individual time trial today and the road race on Sunday.
